Weekly Creativity: January 5 – 11

With work ramping up and the holidays firmly in the rearview mirror, I have slipped back into old habits. After a busy work day, it is so much easier to spend hours doomscrolling or mindlessly watching online videos than it is to pull out my supplies and create something. I could not muster the motivation to use my myriad of pens and markers despite looking at them all week.

What I did manage to do this week though, was take care of my sadly neglected sunroom. I watered, pruned and fertilized my numerous houseplants who were all desperately clinging to life. There are days I marvel at how, despite my carelessness, I have somehow nurtured a room full of plants when only four years ago, I was the type of person who made self-deprecating remarks about how I couldn’t keep anything green alive.

Although I want to share pictures of my sunroom one day, winter is really not the time when it shows to advantage. It’s cramped and cluttered with the central floor space serving as a refugee camp for some of my mother’s plants while they wait out the cold weather before going back into her garden in the spring. These small snapshots of a few of my plants will have to do for now as proof that yes, there are things that are alive and thriving.
